I started my art journey with acrylic paints and a board. Over time I moved into oil and back to acrylic. Retired and travelling I stumbled into bead work in a small town in Texas and fell
in love. It was something that didn’t take up to much room (although now my studio is full!) and I could easily travel and bead.
When I say one bead at a time I mean it! Whether I’m weaving, embroidering or doing mosaic art, most times I lay or stitch one bead at a time. Never one to follow a pattern (even in
quilting) I love to design my own path for the beads to go.
My new love is to create my own beads with different media. I mix them with gemstones, glass and sometimes wood. I love to work in polymer clays. It is like my paintings, using a few
colours and mixing them to create “different”, one of a kind pieces. Don’t be surprised to see some repurposed vintage beads in my work.
I don’t do assembly line art. I love to create each piece to have its own personality. So when people want me to recreate a piece I’ve done.. I smile and say “ maybe close “ !
Patty is a mother to two handsome sons, two beautiful daughters-in-law and four amazing grandkids. She and her husband split their time at their home on Manitoulin, time in
southwestern Ontario and traveling in winter to warmer climates. Her love for creating art has been with her most of her life: from painting to carving to bead work. She has taught classes in
quilting, painting and bead weaving. Always excited to get someone new involved in the arts.
